PRINCESS BEATRICE is due to marry Italian property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi this year. This is how the royal crisis around Meghan Markle and Harry has put Beatrice’s wedding on the back burner.
Princess Beatrice , 31, got engaged to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 36, last September and while the Queen was expected to announce their royal wedding date this month a royal bombshell has taken priority for now. The Queen’s granddaughter is understood to be planning an early summer wedding but the nuptials could be pushed back if plans surrounding Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s withdrawal from their roles have not been firmed up by then.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to have blindsided senior royals by announcing their plans to step back without consulting the Queen.
In a statement to fans on Instagram Meghan and Harry laid out their plans to withdraw from their senior royal roles and to split their time between the UK and North America in future.
Less than 24 hours after the bombshell announcement Meghan reportedly flew back to Canada where she and Harry had just returned from a six-week break.
The couple are understood to have left their son baby Archie in the commonwealth country with his nanny as they returned to Britain to announce the shock move.
Key details about the big day are being kept under wraps but it is believed they may choose to hold the celebration at Beatrice’s family home, The Royal Lodge in Windsor.
Many decisions are still to be made about Prince Harry’s withdrawal from his senior royal role.
“We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.”
If Prince Harry, Archie Harrison and Prince Andrew were to all lose their places in the line of succession then Beatrice could become 6th in line to the throne which would technically make her a senior royal.
With her current status, Beatrice did not have to seek the Queen’s permission to marry Edoardo, but this could change if she moves up to sixth-in-line.
Prince Harry had to secure the Queen’s permission before he tied the knot with Meghan Markle and the same protocol may be expected of Beatrice if her role is elevated.
Beatrice and Edoardo’s wedding could be a silver lining in what is already proving to be a difficult year for the Royal Family.
Meghan and Harry’s planned royal split may create divisions within the family and could mean Beatrice has to make hard decisions about who to invite to her big day.
