Could the next season of “ The Bachelor ” test whether reality TV love goes beyond physical attraction?
Us Weekly and Radar Online report season 24 star Peter Weber “split open his face” in a “freak accident” on Monday, requiring him to be rushed to the hospital. The 28-year-old pilot allegedly cut his face while carrying two glasses in a golf cart on a course in Costa Rica.
“It was a two-hour drive from the course to the hospital in San Jose; he got 22 stitches in his face,” a source told Us Weekly. “The reason he traveled for two hours to a hospital was that this specific hospital had a surgeon that specialized in his injuries. He underwent surgery.”
“The Bachelor” host Chris Harrison downplayed the severity of the injury in a statement to ET .
“Peter suffered a freak accident. He got a cut on his head,” Harrison said. “He did get stitches but he’s 100% OK and production is already back underway. He’s still the dashing, handsome pilot we’ve all dreamed of.”
None of the contestants were on the scene at the time. It’s unclear if any filming is expected to be delayed.
The upcoming season of “The Bachelor” began filming in September with 33 women, including “Tammy L.” from Syracuse . Tammy K. Ly, a Syracuse-based real estate agent and model who speaks English and Vietnamese, is a 2013 graduate of Liverpool High School.
Weber, also known as “Pilot Pete,” was a fan favorite after appearing on season 15 of “The Bachelorette” this year and famously having sex in a windmill with Hannah Brown. The 28-year-old commercial pilot from Westlake Village, Calif., was a runner-up on the show; Brown ended up giving the final rose to Jed Wyatt, but broke off the engagement when it was revealed he had a girlfriend at home.
“The Bachelor” season 24 will premiere in January 2020 on ABC.
