Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru has come out guns blazing on politicians whom she accused of planning to blackmail the Mt Kenya region.
Speaking in Laikipia West on Friday, where thy issued licenses to Boda Boda operators, the woman rep said Laikipia County will not be coerced to any political stand without anything substantive in return.
The Women rep also waded into the referendum debate and claimed that the region was not ready for the change of the constitution anytime soon.
“We have one stand. There is no referendum that we will support. We only want development and money at the grassroots level.
If there is no referendum that was conducted in 2017 then there is no referendum that will be conducted from now henceforth to 2022 until that debt is paid,” roared Waruguru.
The woman rep was, however, not specific on what debt she was referring to.
She urged those seeking the support of Laikipia County residents to put something tangible on the table or else face backlash.
“Whether they like it or not, people should stop misleading our people here. Deputy President William Ruto is our friend… we have refused to be blackmailed our share must be placed on the table,” she demanded.
Waruguru has been an ardent supporter of DP Ruto.
She was among the group of female leaders who launched Inua Mama Jenga Taifa , a group of female leaders rooting for DP’s 2022 presidential ambitions.
Off late, she has been missing in action as her fellow leaders tour various parts of the country.
On Friday the group was in Murang’a while the Woman Rep was in Laikipia to support the Boda Boda empowerment initiative.
Waruguru was in the company of other Laikipia leaders including Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Mwangi Kiunjuri, Laikipia West MP Patrick Mariru, Laikipia Senator John Kinyua and scores of MCAs.
Majority of other speakers also opposed the change of constitution save if the program will enable their county to get more funding.
More than 1200 motorbike riders were issued with licenses while CS Kiunjuri promised to support them in opening a Sacco and made a personal donation of Ksh1M towards the course.
