Have Man Utd ever been relegated? Last time Red Devils were sent down from Premier League, First Division
Dec 31, 2024
Manchester United are one of England's most iconic clubs, not only as a giant of the Premier League but indeed one of the most recognisable football brands around the globe.
Yet it hasn't always been that way. Even the great United have been the victim of relegation in the past, but only on rare occasions.
The Red Devils have indeed been relegated before, albeit it's been nearly 50 years since that happened.
With United struggling in the bottom half of the Premier League table as the calendar turns to 2025, The Sporting News details the club's sparse history with relegation across their glittering history, which spans more than a full century.

Last time Manchester United were relegated

The last time Manchester United were relegated from any English league was in 1973/74 when they were dropped from the First Division thanks to a finish of 21st in the 22-team table.
Thankfully for the supporters, they bounced right back up the following year by winning the 1974/75 Second Division title, and they've been permanent fixtures in the top flight since that time. That means United are one of only eight teams ever to play in the Premier League and never be relegated from it.
Their one year in the second tier is the only time United have spent below the highest level of English football since being promoted in 1938. The Red Devils have never been relegated below the second tier of English football in club history.
