One of the nation’s largest barbeque chains has shuttered more than 100 locations
Dec 17, 2024
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, one of the largest barbeque chains in America, is closing another wave of restaurants.
According to a new report from Restaurant Business Magazine, more than 30 Dickey’s restaurants have closed in the past six months. The series of closures comes after the franchise owners shuttered 97 restaurant locations during the company’s 2024 fiscal year, which ended on May 31.
In October, Dickey’s executives told the publication Eat This, Not That! that the company had been working to “clean up” and strengthen its restaurant system.
Those action items included closing most of Dickey’s virtual eateries, ending franchise agreements with some locations, and ensuring the right people were running restaurants.
“We listened to our operators and we made the strategic decision to strengthen our core before growing again,” Jeff Gruber, senior vice president of franchise relations, told Eat This, Not That! in a statement.
Eat This, Not That! reports Dickey’s system sales decreased 5.2% last year, according to data from the market research firm Technomic. At its peak, Dickey’s Barbecue Pit has nearly 570 restaurants.
According to Eat This, Not That! Dickey’s now has less than 385 locations.
There are currently five Dickey’s Barbecue Pit restaurants in Alabama. Coalburg, Daleville, Dothan, Huntsville, and Mobile each have one Dickey’s location.
