July. 16, 2020

Social media is raving over a handbag today, but it's not just any type of handbag. The Birkin bag which starts selling from $10,000 (N3.8 million) is the subject of controversy.

This comes after 2-year-old Kulture, daughter of rappers Cardi B and Offset, received her very first Birkin bag for her birthday. In the clip which is now causing a stir on social media, the toddler wore a pink ruffled dress with a tiara and butterfly wings as her dad presented her with the expensive pink purse.
The Migos artist captioned the post, 'Late is better then never I Birkin my baby.' Business Insider reported last year that the one Birkin bag can cost from $8,000 to $500,000 and have a tendency to appreciate in value. Some financial analysts have even argued that buying a Birkin bag is a better investment than gold.
Beyond this whopping price tag attached to the bag, some people online don't seem to be okay with the fact that such an expensive gift was gotten for a 2-year-old.
Last week, Cardi and Offset celebrated Kulture's second birthday at their home, where the songstress presented her daughter with jewellery. Cardi shared a look at the array of jewellery send to little Kulture for her birthday celebration, she also showed off the eye-catching decorations and food laid out for the occasion.

However, both Cardi and Offset have now come under fire from people on social media about their act of gifting Kulture a Birkin bag. Here are a few reactions:
@jiggyjayy2, "I wish celebrities would stop buying gifts for their kids to get more likes on IG, wtf a 2 year old gonna do with a Birkin. She is not excited, you are."
@Majin_Jerome, "Why ppl think a kid want a Birkin bag? I didn’t want anything to do with getting clothes as gift until at least 12 lol. Y’all different"
@majeStiC25_, "Offset bought Kulture a Birkin and she held it for 2 seconds and put it back in the box. Somebody said “she put that sh!t right down, she want barbies nigga” in the comments"
In spite of the backlash, Cardi B isn't about to apologize for her and her family's expensive taste, telling her 70.6million Instagram followers in a video on Wednesday that 'it's not up to what the kids like.'
Cardi insists her daughter needs the bag, telling her followers: 'Yea, kids only care about toys and candy. But the thing is, kids also go outside. Kids go to restaurants, kids go to fancy places. Celebrity kids, they go do red carpets.
'And if I'm fly, and daddy's fly, then so is the kid. If I'm wearing Cha-nay-nay, my kid's having the same thing. It's not up to what the kids like. If it was the kids, they'd be outside in diapers.'
