Dec. 06, 2019
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been arrested in Voi following orders by DPP Noordin Haji.
Kenya’s public prosecutor had Friday morning ordered the immediate arrest and arraignment of the county boss for alleged corruption.

In the past few weeks, Sonko faced corruption charges and he failed to stop the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) from investigating him over corruption.
The commission has also been investigating him over alleged past criminal records. Perhaps this is enough to put anyone behind bars.
In a press conference in Nairobi, Haji announced that the governor will be questioned over the loss of Sh357 million of county funds.
According to the DPP, his office has enough evidence to charge the governor and he ordered police to investigate attempts to hinder the investigation.
Haji said Sonko would also be questioned over unlawful acquisition of property and money laundering, among other economic crimes.
Other City Hall officials to be arrested with Sonko are county secretary Peter Mbugua, members of the tender committee Patrick Mwangangi, Samuel Ndung'u, Edwin Kariuki, Lawrence Mwangi, Preston Miriti among others.
