4 Mike Sonko's bodyguards re-arrested after paying KSh 100k each
Nov. 06, 2019
Four bodyguards attached to Governor Mike Sonko have been re-arrested shortly after being released on bail.
The four are accused of causing chaos outside the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) where the governor had been summoned to respond to corruption charges.
The four, Richard Bosire, John Abok, Joseph Mwangi, Kennedy Odhiambo appeared before Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot on Wednesday, November 6, where they denied the charges and were released on a cash bail of KSh 100, 000 each.
They were, however, rearrested moments later and taken back into custody.
During the Tuesday fracas at the EACC headquarters, Sonko caused a commotion after he disobeyed an order by security officers to step out of his car and walk into the EACC offices.
The governor and his men bulldozed their way into the offices causing forcing police officers to lob tear gas canisters to disperse the rowdy youths who were accompanying him.
Sonko finally made his way into the EACC offices accompanied by his lawyer, county attorney Lydia Kwamboka and some executive members.
His bodyguards came under sharp criticism after being filmed harassing and assaulting a number of journalists who were waiting to cover the proceedings.
