Michael Vaughan and Shaun Pollock praise Ishan Kishan after IPL heroics
Sep 29, 2020
Michael Vaughan and Shaun Pollock have hailed Ishan Kishan after his heroics almost saw Mumbai Indians pull off a stunning victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League .
After Bangalore set Mumbai a target of 202, Kishan scored 99 off 58 balls and shared a 119-run partnership with Kieron Pollard (60* off 24) to send the match into a super over.
Mumbai in fact needed five to win from the final two balls but Kishan’s attempt to hit a boundary and reach his century ended in him being caught.
Kishan did not bat in the super over as he was ‘drained’ and Mumbai only scored seven, which proved insufficient as AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli knocked off the runs for Bangalore.
Asked to rate Kishan’s performance, former England captain Vaughan told Cricbuzz : ‘He deserves a lot of credit for getting his team close.
‘That partnership will be talked about for a long, long time. But it is about getting your team over the line.
‘That didn’t quite happen but he played so well. It was a fantastic innings and it makes you think there’s a lot more to come from him in this tournament.’
Kishan sat out of Mumbai’s first two IPL matches this year but ‘cemented’ a place in the team with his brilliant knock on Monday, according to fellow cricket legend Pollock.
The former South Africa star added: ‘Kishan did a really good job and it was such a pity that he got 99 and that massive contribution did not get his team over the line.
