Shona Ramsey ( Julia Goulding ) returns to the eponymous Coronation Street in the coming episodes, but she evidently finds the whole experience rather overwhelming , what with her being unable to remember anything about her former life on the cobbles.
As a result, she runs off, but actress Julia Goulding has revealed which cobbles residents comes to her rescue per se, amid her confusion.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Julia said: ‘We know Shona and Roy had a great friendship and she bolts out of the Platt house when she goes to visit – it’s too overwhelming.’
‘She has a look around to try and jog her memory – she ends up at the back of Roy’s and he finds her. He knows it’s Shona and what she’s suffering with so he invites her in for a cup of tea and a cookie.’
‘And she warms to this new guy who’s warm and a little odd. Is there something there inherent that she knows Roy is ok or does she think he is a bit of a weirdo? He’s very unthreatening.’
‘Everyone is feeding her so much information but Roy is gentle with her and he doesn’t barge in and say “I’m Roy, you know me!” and lets her find her own way. That’s really important in her development and her overcoming this.’
Shona’s journey won’t be an easy one, that’s for sure, but Julia is excited about what’s next for the character.
She said: ‘We have spoken about her getting back to normal – she won’t just wake up and have her memory back. It’s rebuilding new memories and adjusting to life right now.’
‘She will marginally get more back to who she was which will be interesting to see happen. I’m excited to play her in a different way. Not many soap actors get to play a completely different character.
‘Obviously I’d like Shona to still be at Roy’s as working with David Neilson is a dream. A café worker and Gail’s daughter in law’
Coronation Street continues Friday 22 May at 7:30pm on ITV.
