A ‘Plus Size Diva’, Carmen Rene, is tackling the stigma attached to plus-size people by promoting a message of inclusivity. Carmen Rene, 31, is the co-host of the Plus Size Divas, an LA-based weekly talk show promoting body acceptance and self-love. The body-positive influencer, who embraces her curves and her lymphedema, talks about her recent clothing hauls, trends for the summer, and how she combines her style with her lymphedema garments.
I'm not saying this woman isn't beautiful, but our general message about appearance positivity is very misguided. Instead of saying, "Everyone is beautiful", we should be saying "It's okay to not be beautiful". As women and girls, we are brainwashed to have our appearance tie heavily into our self-worth and it takes such a huge toll on us. It is NOT our job to be pretty. We are people, not decorations. - an online comment reads.
Another person also pressed in on the topic of beauty, she says: I think you guys are running away with the obesity angle, when in fact she has lymphedema, which is a failure of the lymphatic system to move gunk out of your body and away from your heart. Sadly, if for whatever reason your system packs up, it causes in some cases quite massive fluid retention. The legs develop a condition known as elephantiasis, and soon pretty much the whole body from the waist down becomes hugely distended. So yes, she is obese, but not in the manner that you usually think, and not easily solved with diet and exercise. So well, share your thoughts in the comment section below!
