DETAILS | A Defiant Kalonzo Gangs Up With NASA Coalition Partners To Battle Raila In Kibra

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and his Ford-Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang’ula have resolved to work together in the Kibra by-election in a move that will likely give the ODM candidate fresh headache.
The resolve to gang up against the ODM candidate, Mr Imran Okoth, signals the deteriorating relations between Orange party leader Raila Odinga and his allies in the 2017 polls.
This follows a meeting with the FORD-Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula to hatch up a plan that will see them win the Kibra race.
According to Mr Musyoka, who hosted Mr Wetang'ula at the offices of the Wiper party in Nairobi, his move back to Mr Butichi is to reciprocate the decision of Ford-Kenya not to contest in this year's Embakasi South by-election. Julius Mawathe from Wiper won the seat.
The two parties agreed that Mr Butichi would be officially endorsed by the Ford-Kenya brigade which is expected to attend a pro-wiper event on Sunday in Athi-River.
Accompanied by Mr Butichi, deputy party leader Richard Onyonka and Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi, the Bungoma senator expressed confidence that Mr Butichi would emerge victorious in the by-election of November 7.
“Our candidate is the strongest. From all the information gathered, I can assure my brother Kalonzo that this Kibra seat is no more a dream, we will carry the day,” he said.
Mr Wetang’ula and ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi have come under attack from Mr Odinga’s allies over their move to field candidates in the race, with ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna threatening to sever links with both parties citing betrayal.
But speaking during a memorial service for eight pupils who died this week at Precious Talents Top School, Mr Odinga maintained that Mr Okoth would triumph.
Mr Odinga introduced Mr Okoth to the crowd, declaring him the “Kibra MP-in-waiting”.
“Kibra is my house and my son Imran is here,” Mr Odinga said. Former Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru also delved into the politics, accusing ‘outsiders’ of “coming to play in Baba’s bedroom”.
Wiper party had said it will not front its candidate on November 7 Kibra by-elections but will instead have its candidate in Kibra during the 2022 general elections.
Butichi ditched Musalia Mudavadi's party ANC which he used during the 2017 elections in Ikolomani.
He came second and challenged the outcome in court which was overruled.
IEBC has cleared 24 aspirants for the by-election including Imran Okoth of ODM, Eliud Owalo of ANC, McDonald Mariga of Jubilee party among others.
