Brad Pitt hits the red carpet at Ad Astra premiere in Tokyo after son Maddox broke his silence on their strained relationship
Sept. 13, 2019
Brad Pitt attended the Ad Astra premiere in Tokyo on Friday night, just days after son Maddox broke his silence on their strained relationship.
The actor, 55, looked in high spirits as he smiled and waved at fans while attending the Japanese red carpet event at the city's Roppongi Hills shopping and entertainment complex.
The screen star looked striking in a low-key black T-shirt, coat and tailored trousers as he promoted his latest cinematic offering.
He slicked his blond locks back behind his ears and posed beside a model rocket, an ode to the movie's plot.
It was the latest in a series of appearances for the actor, who has been busy promoting both Ad Astra and Quentin Tarantino movie Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.
In the science fiction film, Brad plays the lead role of Roy McBride, an astronaut who travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father.
Maddox, the adopted son he shares with ex-wife Angelina Jolie, 44, gave an insight into his fraught relationship with his father earlier this week.
The student, 18, offered a brief mention of his father when asked about the actor during a rare interview outside of his college, Yonsei University in Incheon, South Korea, which was obtained by In Touch.
Maddox and Brad have been almost entirely estranged since a 2016 incident where the thespian and his son allegedly had a serious altercation while aboard a private plane.
The incident reportedly lead Angelina to file for divorce after just two years of marriage.
Maddox, the eldest of the couple's six children, opened up when asked whether his father would be visiting him at university.
He deflected, saying: 'I don’t know about that [or] what’s happening.'
Then asked whether or not his relationship with Pitt is 'over', the biochemistry student shrugged and told the reporter: 'Well, whatever happens, happens.'
Maddox didn't seem upset by the questioning; he went on to say he's adjusting to school well and is working hard on his Korean.
Asked whether he'd be hitting up any K-pop clubs, he quickly dismissed the idea, revealing that he's more partial to punk like The Clash and The Business.
Maddox has been in South Korea since late August, when his superstar mother dropped him off.
At the time she was captured telling a group of students that '[Yonsei] seems like a great school.'
Like any mother, she was anxious about her offspring leaving the nest and told the group she was 'trying not to cry.'
Brad and Angelina were together from 2005, when they met on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith while he was still married to Jennifer Aniston, until September 2016.
The former couple tied the knot at their chateau in the South of France in August 2014.
They have six children together; Maddox, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and twins Vivienne, 11, and Knox, 11.
