Marieangela King is speaking out after filing for divorce fromElijah Blue Allman.

On Tuesday, April 8, the singer filed for dissolution of her marriage to Allman, 48, the son of Cher and late Allman Brothers Band musician Gregg Allman. King, 37, shared an exclusive statement with PEOPLE about their separation.

"We had a beautiful 13-year journey, filled with memories I’ll always cherish. I know we’ll remain friends, and Elijah will always hold a special place in my heart," King told PEOPLE exclusively.

"As we turn the page to this next chapter, we kindly ask for privacy and truly appreciate your understanding."

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, King cited irreconcilable differences and requested $6,000 per month in temporary spousal support, along with the couple's 2017 Toyota Prius.

If Allman wants to keep the car, however, King seeks "an additional $2,000 one-time payment and $500 per month in spousal support" to "acquire a vehicle for her use." King also is requesting Allman to pay for her legal fees.

The former couple, who originally wed in December 2013, separated on March 31.
