IPOB Sends Urgent Message To IGBOS In Northern States, Urges Them To Return Home Amidst Unbearable Threats Of Reprisal
Apr 6, 2025
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a strong advisory, urging Igbo people currently residing in Northern Nigeria to consider an urgent relocation to the South- East region of the country. This call to return home comes in the wake of the recent killings in Edo State, where individuals identified as Hausa hunters were lynched. IPOB, through a statement released on Saturday by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, has warned of potential retaliatory attacks targeting Igbos living in Northern states, citing credible intelligence that suggests an imminent threat to their lives and properties.
The Biafran group' s statement draws a stark parallel with historical instances of violence in Northern Nigeria, where Igbos have often been targeted and made to bear the brunt of conflicts in which they had no direct involvement. IPOB specifically referenced the pogroms of 1966, a period of intense violence in the North that resulted in the deaths of thousands of Igbos, emphasizing the urgent need to avoid a repetition of such tragic events. The group implored Igbos in the North to take the threats seriously and to prioritize their safety. Their advisory suggests that if relocating with all their belongings proves challenging, individuals should, at the very least, send their family members back to their ancestral homeland in Alaigbo, the Igbo- speaking region of Nigeria.
