Household told simple change they can make to keep bills down
Experts have told households about a simple boiler trick which could cut their energy bills by £166 a year.
Many homes potentially have their boiler temperatures higher than they need to be, meaning they are spending more than they need to.
Commentators say turning down the temperature only slightly could bring big changes while still keeping homes warm enough during the colder months.
The advice comes when many families are feeling the pinch after numerous bills, including energy, went up at the start of April.
Robert Andrews, an energy efficiency expert at ElectricityPrices.org.uk, explained: "Lowering your flow temperature will reduce your energy consumption while still keeping your home warm.
"To save money on your energy bills you should set the heating side of your boiler to 70°C and the water side to around 60°C.
"This ensures the boiler condenses properly while being more energy efficient.
"By adjusting the flow temperature settings you can reduce your gas usage by up to 9% while still keeping your home warm.
"That's a potential savings of £166.41 per year off your bills, and when most of us are feeling the effects of the cost of living, every penny saved can be helpful.
"To locate the flow temperature dial on your boiler look for the radiator icon and lower this down to 70C.
