Apr 3, 2025
A heart- wrenching incident has shaken the Nigerian healthcare system, as a pregnant woman, Kemi, lost her life after allegedly being denied treatment at a private hospital due to her inability to pay a ₦500, 000 deposit. The tragic event was first shared on social media by her husband, Akinbobola Folajimi, and has since sparked widespread outrage and sympathy.
According to Folajimi' s account, the couple visited a private hospital seeking emergency care for his wife, who was in labor. However, they were turned away because they couldn' t afford the required deposit. The hospital allegedly referred them to a general hospital in Epe, but unfortunately, Kemi didn' t survive the journey.
In a video shared online, Kemi is seen lying in the backseat of a car, visibly weak, as her husband tries to keep her conscious. He pleads with her to stay strong for their children, repeatedly calling her name and urging her to hold on. The emotional video has sparked an outpouring of grief and anger on social media, with many expressing their outrage and sympathy for the couple.
Folajimi' s post announcing his wife' s passing has been widely shared, with many condemning the hospital' s actions as " wicked" and " heartless. " The incident highlights the challenges faced by many Nigerians in accessing quality healthcare, particularly those who cannot afford the high costs of medical treatment.
