CBN Drops BOMBSHELL, Makes Unexpected Announcement Over New N5, 000 And N10, 000 Notes, See What They Said
Apr 3, 2025
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has officially debunked claims that it is introducing new ₦5, 000 and ₦10, 000 banknotes. The apex financial institution described these reports as entirely false and misleading, urging the public to disregard any such information circulating on social media and other platforms.
Recent rumors suggested that the CBN was planning to roll out these high- denomination notes as part of an effort to reduce cash- handling costs and improve liquidity management. Some sources even attributed statements to a supposed Deputy Governor, Dr. Ibrahim Tahir Jr. , indicating that the notes would be launched on May 1, 2025. However, the CBN has firmly denied these allegations, stating that no such plans exist.
In an official statement, the CBN clarified, " This content is NOT from the Central Bank of Nigeria. Kindly note that the official website of the CBN is cbn. gov. ng. " The bank reiterated its commitment to transparency and encouraged the public to rely only on verified sources for information regarding monetary policy and currency management.
This denial follows a pattern of misinformation that has often spread regarding Nigeria' s currency policies. In recent years, several false reports have surfaced, misleading the public about purported changes to the nation' s financial system. The CBN has consistently warned against the dissemination of such misinformation, emphasizing that any official announcements would be made through its verified channels.
