Amnesty International Sends Urgent Message To FG, Tells Them To Stop Armed Herdsmen Attack IMMEDIATELY

Amnesty International has issued a strong call to the Nigerian government to take immediate action against the rising wave of herdsmen attacks across the country. The human rights organization, in its latest report titled " Harvest of Death, " revealed alarming statistics on the scale of violence that has plagued various states, resulting in thousands of deaths and widespread displacement.
The report, which was shared via Amnesty International' s official 𝕏 account on April 2, 2025, covers the period from January 2016 to October 2018. It details that at least 3, 641 Nigerian citizens lost their lives due to herdsmen attacks within this timeframe, while thousands of others were forced to flee their homes. The affected communities have faced persistent insecurity, with successive administrations failing to effectively address the crisis.
According to the report, some of the most severely impacted states include Benue, Plateau, Adamawa, Kaduna, and Zamfara, which recorded the highest number of casualties. The breakdown of deaths per state further illustrates the widespread nature of the violence: Benue recorded 726 deaths, Adamawa 540, Plateau 492, Zamfara 489, Taraba 453, Kaduna 414, Nasarawa 196, Niger 94, Kogi 66, Sokoto 52, and Enugu 46. Other states also reported fatalities, though in lower numbers, including Delta (22), Cross River (16), Oyo (13), Edo (9), Ebonyi (4), Rivers (2), Abuja (2), Ondo (2), Anambra (1), Abia (1), and Ekiti (1).
