The UK is home to many wealthy people including the 165 billionaires who lived in the country in 2024. And one way billionaires like to show off their wealth is by buying huge houses or estates that are bound to wow visitors.
One such estate is Dodington Park, a 300-acre estate in South Gloucestershire. It is so large that it could reportedly fit 18,000 average-sized homes inside it. The property, which dates back to the 18th century, was purchased by James Dyson in 2003 for an estimated £20 million.
Dyson, best known as the inventor of the bagless vacuum cleaner, has an estimated net worth of around £10 billion, according to Forbes.
He was ranked as the fifth-richest person in the UK in the 2023 Sunday Times Rich List.
His estate includes a Grade I-listed Georgian mansion, a church, lakes, woodlands, and formal gardens.
It also has an underground swimming pool, which was built without planning permission and only revealed to authorities in 2015 after a tip-off. Dyson was later granted retrospective approval.
Originally designed by architect James Wyatt, the estate was once home to the Codrington family, who made their fortune through sugar plantations in the Caribbean.
In the 1950s, the Codrington family opened the estate to the public due to the rising costs of maintenance.
