Brazil U23 star 'in talks' over MLS transfer as LA Galaxy makes ambitious move
Mar 16, 2025
MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy are reportedly in line to sign a Brazilian Under-23 star as they continue their search for a replacement for Dejan Joveljic
In their search for a forward to lead the line, LA Galaxy has turned its attention to a Brazilian starlet. 20-year-old Matheus Nascimento is reportedly in talks with the reigning MLS Cup champions over a loan move from Botafogo, as per Tiago Brandao.
However, while the move looks likely to go ahead, Nascimento will reportedly put pen to paper on a new deal with Botafogo prior to completing the loan as his current contract will expire at the end of this year, Brandao later added.
Should Nascimento join, he would potentially battle it out for the starting role alongside former US Men’s National Team forward Christian Ramirez, who is reportedly set to join from Columbus Crew, according to GiveMeSport.
A promising young forward, Nascimento has netted once in five games for Botafogo this year prior to sustaining a hamstring injury. Unfortunately, the Brazil Under-23 international also missed the majority of last season with a hamstring injury, limiting him to just 18 appearances and three goals across all competitions.
Since making his debut in 2020 aged just 16, Nascimento has appeared in 96 games for the reigning Brazilian champions, scoring 12 goals and bagging another seven assists.
