Tess Daly's 'real reason' for marrying Vernon Kay as he talks 'dressing up'
Mar 14, 2025
BBC Radio 2 host Vernon Kay has been married to Strictly Come Dancing presenter Tess Daly since 2003, and together they share two daughters Phoebe and Amber
Vernon Kay believes that his wife, Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly, married him because he's "a bit weird".
In a humorous exchange with his fellow presenter Scott Mills on BBC Radio 2 on Friday, Vernon said he loved to dress up and recently purchased a rhinestone cowboy suit.
Quizzed on where he planned to wear the outfit, the presenter replied: "Well... I don't know, I honestly don't know", and admitted: "I ain't gonna lie Scott Mills, I like dressing up."
He went on to say: "I have a trunk full of kind of Star Wars costumes, Halloween costumes, I love dressing up and I don't mind.
"Its been known that I will just wander off to the local supermarket, dressed as a character from a certain movie."
Reacting to his revelation, Scott commented: "I bet Tess loves it," to which Vernon replied: "Oh, she thinks I'm a bit weird, I think that's why she married me to be honest."
"Of course, that was the case 20 odds years ago," Scott chimed in, referencing the early days of their relationship.
Joking about Tess' realisation during their first kiss, he continued: "Snogging on the balcony at Fabric [nightclub], 'Oh you're weird'."
The couple first met in 2001 at a BBCChristmas party and went on to marry two years later.
