Richard, who lives in Herefordshire and has a classic car workshop in Rotherwas, had been involved in a severe crash while filming Top Gear in 2006, leaving him in a coma for two weeks and in hospital for five weeks. Speaking candidly at a Royal Television Society conference last year, ex-Top Gear producer Andy Wilman admitted that he was frustrated with safety on the show.
