More fans might be tempted to watch it now
Netflix has just added a Marvel movie that split fan opinion just months after its initial cinema release.
Kraven The Hunter only landed in theaters back in December 2024 but it is already included as part of the streaming giant's extensive library from today (March 13). While not an official part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it does adapt a number of iconic comic book characters, primarily those recognised as key Spider-Man villains.
The film's synopsis states: "Kraven's complex relationship with his ruthless father starts him down a path of vengeance, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world, but also one of its most feared."
It is part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe titles based around the web slinging hero's adversaries. This includes the likes of Morbius, Venom, and Madame Web. Venom is the only one to not only receive a sequel so far, but also find some kind of success at the box office. This strategy was designed by the studio to capitalise on the success of the MCU while utilising intellectual property they still held the rights to.
Kraven was reported to have a budget of between $110 million and $130 million. In its short lifespan on the big screen, it only managed to recoup half that amount, with around $60 million in takings. The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the titular role, while Russell Crowe plays his father. While Taylor-Johnson is known for previous appearances in movies like Kick-Ass and Bullet Train, he is currently tipped as one of the favourites to be the next James Bond. He is also set to feature in the upcoming zombie sequel 28 Years Later.
