How to update the firmware of my PS5 DualSense controller in 2025
Mar 13, 2025
We explain how to update the PlayStation 5 controller easily on both console and PC.
The process for updating the PlayStation 5 DualSense is, fortunately, quite simple. In fact, it is most likely that your own PS5 will warn you that you need to update it if you turn on the console and it detects that you are playing with an outdated version.
If you think this has failed, or you cancelled the update without realising it, don't worry: it's easy to fix. Here's a step-by-step guide.
How to update the PS5 DualSense on PlayStation 5
Turn on your PS5 and connect the controller. Make sure your controller is paired with the console. If it is not, connect it using the USB-C cable that comes with the PS5 and press the PS button to sync it.
Access the settings menu. From the PS5's main screen, go to the top right corner and select the "Settings" icon (it looks like a little gear).
Navigate to the Accessories section. In the settings menu, look for the "Accessories" option and select it. Here you will find everything related to your controller.
Check the controller software. Select "Controller (General)" and then "DualSense Wireless Controller Software". If an update is available, the console will notify you.
