Sure, the best workwear brands should be easy on the eye. But they should be easy on the wallet, too.
Workwear (the American kind) first kicked off around the 1800s when it was made for railroad workers in Michigan. Pieces like the chore jacket and the dungaree were constructed from tough, long-lasting materials like canvas, denim, and leather. They were designed to be repaired again and again, and they were also equipped with plenty of pockets – perfect for storing all of your tools and faded photos of the wife back in Kansas. Oh, Luann.
Fast forward over one hundred years, and workwear has now assimilated into the menswearverse. Houses like Bottega Veneta, Louis Vuitton, and Prada have all been going hard on it in recent seasons, but that's not to say that all workwear has to be super expensive. So in this guide, we'll be running through the best workwear brands that you'll actually be able to afford without auctioning off a kidney (or two).
1 | Barbour
Barbour's story begins in 1894 right here in lovely England. Founded by John Barbour, the brand originally sold countrywear that was worn mostly by farmers and field workers. Barbour's grandson Duncan, who was a keen motorcyclist, would later introduce a collection of motorcycling jackets and the now-legendary waxed jacket. The latter featured prominently in Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen, but while it's a staple for country manor types, it's actually still quite affordable.
