Freesky’s Dual-Battery Fat Tire Alaska Pro E-Bike Packs Speed And Range
Mar 11, 2025
The e-bike ecosphere continues to evolve, and one popular feature as of late is doubling up on batteries to increase range, weight (sorta) be damned, as long as the motive power is there to compensate.
Dual-battery systems have typically been more focused on workhorse e-bikes like the Engwe LE20 cargo bike I recently reviewed or the Lectric XPedition 2.0. But the $1,899 Freesky Alaska Pro M-520 is a different animal: a more moto-style full-size fat tire blaster with full suspension, roomy ergos and two built-in batteries. While it’s not marketed as a mountain bike, it seems equipped for off-road exploration. Can it handle some real MTB riding? And it goes how fast?
Freesky Alaska Pro M-520 Overview
As noted, the Freesky Alaska Pro M-520 is a full-suspension fat tire e-bike with two batteries. Both batteries lock into the standard-style aluminum frame spars but remain easily removable. With both batteries aboard, the M-250 tips the scales at a solid 90 pounds, so if you have to haul it up some stairs when you get home, maybe hit the free weights at the gym a bit harder.
The batteries, an 18Ah unit in the top frame rail and a larger 23Ah pack in the bottom rail, combine to give between 90 and 160 miles of range. They feed power to a brushless rear hub motor rated at 1,200 Watts and a stout 130nm of torque.
