The Champion Hurdle is among the seven races on day one of the Cheltenham Festival
After months upon months of build-up, speculation, predictions and plenty of guesswork, the 2025 Cheltenham Festival kicks off today.
There has been drama before the racing even starts, with the decision by Lossiemouth's connections to run her in the Mares' Hurdle rather than the Champion Hurdle angering many.
Willie Mullins told time and time again about a two-year plan to run the two-time Festival winner in the day one feature. However, she lines up in the Mares' 40 minutes earlier and will go off a short-priced favourite as she looks to add to her victory in the race last year and her Triumph Hurdle success 12 months earlier. She will be very hard to beat.
In another surprise move, Golden Ace, who beat Brighterdaysahead in last year's Mares' Novices' Hurdle, is taking her chance in the Champion Hurdle rather than the Mares' race.
She will once again face the Gordon Elliott-trained Brighterdaysahead and undefeated superstar Constitution Hill, who looks set to go off the odds-on favourite.
If Lossiemouth and other short-priced favourites Kopek Des Bordes and Majborough win the Supreme Novices' Hurdle and Arkle Novices' Chase respectively, it could be one of the worst ever days in Festival history for the bookies.
