Zen is my new favorite browser - and these 5 mods make it even better
Mar 10, 2025
Recently, I switched from Opera to Zen Browser as my default web browser on Linux and MacOS. Zen Browser brings vastly improved tab management and theming to Firefox. It also offers a cool little feature called Zen Mods.
Zen Mods are free additions you can install from within the Zen Mods store that make subtle or not-so-subtle changes to the UI and behavior of the browser. Consider them like Firefox add-ons, only they're all community-driven.
Zen Mods make the browser a bit more fun and (in some cases) more efficient to use. Some mods even have custom settings to further tweak.
I want to introduce you to my favorite Zen Mods, which I've added to all of my instances of Zen Browser.
Installing Zen Mods
Before I get into the list, I thought I'd illustrate how easy Zen Mods are to install. To add a mod to your browser, all you have to do is find one you like and then click Install Theme. This will add the mod to Zen Browser and give you access to enable/disable and (in some cases) options from within Settings > Zen Mods.

With that out of the way, let's get to the mods.
1. Erics Zen UI Tweak Box
If you install one Zen Mod, let it be Erics Zen UI Tweak Box. This is sort of a one-stop-shop mod that includes plenty of tweaks, such as adding spacing to the right of the exit button, enabling a cool gradient as the background, adding shadow to the page canvas, removing the border around the URL bar, tweaking the layout of pinned tabs, and more.
