Three months after leaving us in suspense on a baby cliffhanger for Dr. Max (Joshua Jackson), Avery (Philippa Soo), and Tristan (Sean Teale), the oddball ABC medical procedural is back and filled with bite… literally.

In Episode 9 (“Shark Attack”), The Odyssey’s crew is faced with personal and professional predicaments as one of their own, Spence (Marcus Emmanuel Mitchell), encounters life-threatening injuries from a shark bite endured while surfing. As if things weren’t dramatic enough, the attack occurred as Avery and Max were sparring on land over who the father of her baby is and how to handle Avery’s unexpected pregnancy. Kids, don’t have threesomes with your coworkers; it cannot and will not end well.

With Spence in danger of losing his foot after taking a nasty bite to the ankle, The Odyssey and Captain Robert (Don Johnson) chart a course for the nearest hospital, only to be interrupted by more shark-infested waters. This time, it’s a distress call from a sunken vessel with two critically ill passengers, including a surf enthusiast named Josie, played by Rumer Willis! Max and Tristan head out in a rescue boat to pull the endangered sailors out of the water, and not a moment too soon. As Max works with the medic from the sunken ship, Dr. Brooke Lane (Adrianne Palicki), to pull her passengers to safety, sharks circle and even knock into the boat, pushing Max and Brook into each other sweetly. Or as sweetly as a potentially deadly shark attack can be.
