Cash-In-Transit Robbers Break Down In Tears After This Happening, See What Happened To Him
Mar 4, 2025
The violent cash-in-transit (CIT) heist was committed by a group of armed criminals who were each handed a 150-year prison term. The individuals who carried out the spectacular heist were found guilty of numerous offences, including armed robbery, attempted murder, possession of illegal guns, and malicious damage to property. They terrorised both security guards and people. During the sentence hearing in the Gauteng High Court, Judge Thabo Mokoena harshly emphasised the gravity of the offenders' acts and their societal impact.
Brazen offenders must not be allowed by this court to undermine the rule of law and engender fear in communities. He said the severe punishment should deter those who think they can get away with it. Using high-powered firearms in a concerted attack, the robbers targeted a cash-in-transit truck in broad daylight. In Johannesburg, the gang pulled over the car, gunned down security officers, and then detonated explosives to get entry to the vault containing the money.
As bullets flew through the air, civilians were trapped in the crossfire and had to flee for their lives. They attempted to flee with millions of dollars in cash, but the authorities responded quickly, setting off a dramatic pursuit. At the scene, police arrested multiple individuals, and in subsequent operations, they arrested additional suspects. The court determined that the terms of the punishments would be cumulatively 150 years, running in consecutive order. According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the ruling shows that the country is serious about fighting violent crime.
