Thousands of vehicles were stolen in the city last year
Birmingham has topped the list of the worst UK cities outside of London for car theft.
Shockingly, 3,220 vehicles per 100,000 were stolen in the city last year according to new DVLA data.
Birmingham was followed by Manchester (912), Leeds (901) and Sheffield (899) as the cities with the most car crime outside of the capital.
The second city was named as the worst in the UK outside of London in a list of the worst 20 areas for car crime.
Smethwick, West Bromwich, Bilston and Willenhall also made the list.
This Is Money’s analysis of the data found that Barking was the town most prone to motor crime in the UK.
The East London district topped the list over any other town for cars being pinched with around 648 stolen per 100,000 vehicles.
When it came to the most popular vehicle being stolen in Barking, Toyota came out on top with a total of 25 of these car brands being nicked.
According to the DVLA, roughly 61,343 cars were reported stolen in the UK last year - making it the third-highest annual tally in a decade.
Vehicle theft in 2024 was more than double the volume seen in 2015 and contributed to £11.7billion in motor claims from insurers.
