Best and worst 'Spoons' revealed across North-East Wales
Mar 4, 2025
The first JD Wetherspoon was founded in 1979 with approximately 900 pubs now operating across the UK, including 11 in North Wales.
Since the closure of North and South Wales Bank on High Street, only one 'Spoons' remains in Wrexham's city centre, while Flintshire and Denbighshire each have three.
With several to choose from, we decided to give punters a helping hand by checking the latest reviews on everyone's favourite online guide, Tripadvisor.
From worst to best, here's what we found...

7. The Elihu Yale, Regent Street, Wrexham

This pub is named after the founder of Yale University, who lies buried in Wrexham churchyard. Popular with daytime drinkers, this 'typical spoons' is shamed for its 'outdated decor', despite an abundance of praise for its excellent menu variety. The venue is currently hiring bar staff.
Coming in at last place, it received a 2-out-of-5 rating on Tripadvisor.

6. The Gold Cape, Wrexham Street, Mold

Described by one reviewer as 'the best spoons I've ever eaten in.' This pub has many regular customers who confirm it is indeed cheap and cheerful. The staff have received praise for their attentiveness and friendly manner, making punters feel welcome.
Despite a few cold baked beans this place ranks slightly higher with 3-stars from 323 reviews.

5. The Market Cross, High Street, Holywell
