The "Greedy" singer has been in several relationships since she first rose to fame, starting with her first public romance with fellow Calgary, Alberta, Canada native Jonny Hader, whom she began dating in 2019. They were together for nearly two years before calling it quits in 2021. The same year, she began dating NHL player Cole Sillinger, whom she split from in 2023.

In January 2024, the popstar was linked to her current boyfriend, fellow music artist The Kid LAROI, after they stepped out for dinner together in Los Angeles, following rumors that they had been vacationing together in Mexico earlier that month. McRae, who notoriously sings ballads and pop hits about heartbreak and love, played coy about their romance for months — until the pair went Instagram official on her 21st birthday in July 2024.

During a January 2025 interview with iHeartRadio, McRae opened up about what she admires most about LAROI, saying, "He's one of the most generous and giving people ever. All he wants to do is make other people feel good, and that's so rare nowadays."

On Feb. 24, McRae released a new album, So Close to What, which drew inspiration from her love life. During a conversation with Apple Music ahead of the album release, McRae shared that her song "Greenlight" was "a perfect way to describe the feeling of falling in love again and being terrified to do that."
