Ex-referee Dermot Gallagher sets record straight over Patrick Dorgu’s red card vs Ipswich, ‘fantastic’ point is raised
Feb 27, 2025
Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher made his position clear on the red card decision against Patrick Dorgu in Manchester United’s 3-2 win on Wednesday.
Jaden Philogene fired Ipswich Town into a shock lead inside the opening five minutes after a blunder from Andre Onana and Patrick Dorgu at the back.
However, Manchester United climbed back into the Premier League contest in the 22nd minute after Sam Morsy turned the ball into the back of the Ipswich Town net.
Ruben Amorim’s men would then take the lead at Old Trafford through Matthijs de Ligt before Patrick Dorgu was sent off in the 43rd minute for a reckless tackle.
Jaden Philogene found the back of the net in first-half injury time and Ipswich and United were level going into the break, with the Red Devils down to 10 men.
Harry Maguire would put United into the lead only two minutes after the break and Ruben Amorim’s side saw out the remainder of the second half to seal the win.

Gallagher’s verdict on Dorgu’s red card

Referee Darren England was summoned to the pitchside monitor after VAR called for a review of Patrick Dorgu’s challenge on Ipswich Town’s Omari Hutchinson.
Following the VAR review, Darren England brandished a red card and Manchester United star Dorgu was sent marching down the tunnel at Old Trafford.
