British Gas, EON, OVO and EDF customers getting £150 off bills despite hike
Feb 26, 2025

Many people are still missing out on the scheme to get the vital cash boost

Energy customers with major providers like British Gas, EON, EDF, and OVO Energy have been receiving letters offering a £150 discount on their bills, which many have yet to claim. The Warm Home Discount is an under-the-radar initiative that allows eligible households to get £150 off energy bills from various well-known suppliers.
For most, the discount is automatically applied, with the reduction taken directly from your bills. However, for those with pre-payment or credit meters, the process isn't as simple, reports The Express.
Traditional meters that require a card or key for top-ups can't receive the discount directly; instead, these customers are issued vouchers to redeem at their top-up location, often a Post Office. The Post Office began distributing the vouchers in October for customers with British Gas, EON, EDF, OVO Energy, Scottish Power, and Good Energy.
But be aware, the letter accompanying the voucher will highlight an expiry date—miss it, and you won't be able to benefit from the discount. If you lose the voucher or it expires, households can request a reissue, but this requires contacting the Post Office.
When you receive the letter, take the vouchers along with ID such as a driving licence, passport, or utility bill to the Post Office. The government outlines the details of the Warm Home Discount Scheme, stating: "The Warm Home Discount Scheme is a one-off £150 discount off your electricity bill.
