Coronation Street fans could be bidding farewell to one character next week after almost 35 years.

In upcoming scenes, David Platt, who has been a staple on the ITV soap since 1990, learns that nemesis Harvey Gaskell wants him dead for his life insurance so he can pay off his debts.

Spoilers see David learn the news while being held at knifepoint by Andy while locking up the salon.

And in a devastating twist later in the week, it's revealed in a flashforward that David is in hospital as medics do everything they can to save his life.

Prior to the hospital scene, Nick Tilsley and Shona Platt are left concerned for David when they see him knocking back vodka at lunchtime.

Meanwhile, Daisy Midgeley and stepmother Jenny Connor bicker after the latter lets Daniel Osbourne think Daisy's baby is his so he can bail them out of their pub debts to Carla Connor.

At the pub, while David drowns his worries, Kit Green takes Daniel to one side and suggests that he should ask Daisy for proof that the baby is actually his, leaving Jenny squirming.

It's not long until Daniel confronts Daisy and demands that she swear on the baby’s life that he’s the father. The confrontation proves too much for Daisy as she dashes out the pub.
