Loose Women's Gloria Hunniford shares emotional reason she still needs to work
Feb 24, 2025

Gloria Hunniford is determined to keep busy and thinks she'll be working until she's age 90

Veteran broadcaster Gloria Hunniford, at the age of 84, continues to grace our television screens, despite having an extensive career spanning over seven decades. She's best known these days as a regular on 'Loose Women' and co-hosting BBCs 'Rip Off Britain', making her a familiar face for viewers each week.
However, her presence on screen isn't merely driven by a passion for exposing wrongs or battling deceit. In a candid interview, she shared that her commitment to work is a lifeline in dealing with bereavement.
Markedly this year, as it marks not just 21 years since the loss of her daughter Caron Keating to cancer, but also six months since the passing of her husband Stephen Way at 85, after the couple spent 30 years together.
"Work makes me feel safe, because I have a structure, I know what I'm supposed to be doing," she confided. "All the emotional stuff and all the heartbreak, that's the hard bit to cope with."
The TV star finds solace in her work's routine, allowing her respite from sorrow, even if only temporarily, reports the Mirror.
"As long as you can take your [self] away from grief for an hour it helps clear your mind for a little while," she continued. "I've worked since I was seven and for me doing things and keeping busy is good for my head. To do nothing would be miserable for me. My way of coping wouldn't be for everybody and I'm sure it's quite controversial, but I love work."
