Championship promotion hopefuls Sunderland have been urged to source an upgrade on Ian Poveda, who has endured a difficult spell since his switch to the Stadium of Light last summer.
Sunderland looked to have sealed something of a coup with the free transfer signing of Poveda.
The winger, who previously spent time on the books at Barcelona, Arsenal, Brentford and Manchester City, enjoyed a promising loan stint from Leeds United with Sheffield Wednesday during the second half of the previous campaign and was widely expected to kick on after joining Sunderland.
But while the likes of Chris Mepham and top scorer Wilson Isidor have each proved key cogs in Regis Le Bris' promotion-chasing side following their respective arrivals from Bournemouth and Zenit St. Petersburg, Poveda has struggled to find his feet on Wearside.
The winger missed a significant chunk of time across the opening half of the season with a hamstring injury but has flattered to deceive in each of his six league appearances, which have all come from the bench without yielding a goal or assist.
