The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced a few changes in The Teacher Performance Appraisal and Development (TPAD) system in order to improve teacher monitoring and evaluation during class.

The changes were announced by the TSC County and Sub County officials early January during the primary school headteachers conference. The headteachers had convened under the Kenya Primary School Heads Association (KEPSHA) umbrella to discuss their issues for the term.

TPAD, an open appraisal system, enables primary and secondary school teachers to take part in assessing their own performance and starting their professional development.

Teachers can now observe their fellow teachers and fill out the lesson observation forms, thanks to TSC’s appraisal and development system, which strives to restore the lost glory of the teaching profession as well as public trust and support.

Unlike in past school terms where only school administrators were allowed to join a class and observe teachers and fill the lesson observation form, non-administrator teachers can now initiate lesson observation activity.

According to TSC, the changes are meant to give school officials enough time to attend to more serious matters.

Teachers will make the lesson observation forms available to administrators for uploading to the online TPAD system after they have finished them.
