Serena and Venus Williams lost their eldest sister, Yetunde Price, in a tragic killing in their hometown of Compton, Calif., over two decades ago.
The tennis stars grew up as the youngest of their parents', Oracene Price and Richard Williams, five girls. Oracene welcomed her three elder daughters — Yetunde, Lyndrea and Isha — in her previous marriage.
Tragedy struck the family on Sept. 14, 2003, when Price was killed by a gunshot that seemed to come from nowhere — cracking through a window of her white SUV and hitting her in the back of the head, per the Los Angeles Times. She was 31 years old.
In an interview with PEOPLE in 2007, Serena said it was "still hard" for her to talk about.
"Yetunde and I were so close; she changed my diapers," the tennis legend said. "But I finally came to an acceptance of things."
Here’s everything to know about Serena and Venus Williams’ oldest sister and her untimely death in 2003.

Who was Yetunde Price?

Price was a nurse, mother of three and part owner of a modest hair salon. She also worked as a personal assistant to Serena and Venus, keeping track of their appointments and the like, even joining them at Wimbledon. But she mainly led a largely independent life in California.
