Wildwood looks to host airshow, replacing massive Atlantic City summertime event
Feb 7, 2025
Stunt-performing airplanes may be zooming past beachgoers at the Jersey Shore this summer after all.
Wildwood is forming its own airshow to host later this year after Atlantic City’s yearly event was canceled in 2024 and 2025.
Until last year, Atlantic City’s airshow was held toward the latter half of summer, drawing tens of thousands to its beaches. The airshow was considered New Jersey’s largest free event.
Wildwood officials are in negotiations to host an airshow later this year, city spokesperson Lisa Fagan confirmed to NJ Advance Media. Officials, however, said Thursday that the airshow isn’t a done deal amid speculation seen on social media.
Ben Rose, marketing director for the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority, said the airshow would be held Sept. 5 and 6. The authority, which is responsible for promoting tourism in the area, expects to finalize a contract for the airshow next week, Rose said.
Costs for holding the event weren’t released Thursday.
Roar to the Shore, a motorcycle rally that attracted hundreds of bikers to the seaside communities, was held on that weekend for 23 years. Wildwood nixed that tradition in 2023, and officials have been exploring replacements to provide an end-of-summer economic impact, Rose said.
Upon contract approval, the airshow would be a first for the Wildwoods, Rose said.
