Intuit TurboTax 2025 (Tax Year 2024)
Jan 6, 2025
Comprehensive tax prep with an exceptional user experience
Intuit TurboTax has been handling personal tax preparation for several decades now. It packs a lot of substance and style, combining a thorough coverage of tax topics with an easy-to-follow interview format and top-notch support. New integrations with Credit Karma and QuickBooks Online (both of which Intuit owns), a reshuffling of the interview process, and a planned revamp of its wrap-up promise to make the experience even better. You pay a premium for all these features, but TurboTax more than justifies its price. We tested a preview release of the service for this evaluation but will publish a full review with a rating once the final version is ready around the time the IRS officially opens filing.
How Much Does TurboTax Cost?
TurboTax costs more than other online tax prep services, but not by much. It maintains a Free Edition (federal and state) for taxpayers who claim the standard deduction and whose returns don't exceed the Child Tax Credit, the Earned Income Tax Credit, limited interest and dividend income, the student loan interest deduction, and W-2 income.
The Deluxe version ($39 each for federal and state returns) lets you add itemized deductions. The Premium tier ($89 for federal and $39 for state returns) includes what you need to report rental income and self-employment. The prices for both versions will increase later in the filing season. Through February 18, 2025, anyone who didn’t use TurboTax for the 2023 tax year can file with any version for free.
