The fights in are legendary, but not for the reasons one might initially think. Dramatic and explosive as they can be, many battles lack in terms of their actual choreography. While Dragon Ball Z fights have weaker choreography than either the original series' or Super's, there are still more than a few brawls where the fighting itself is a highlight.
Choreography isn't the main appeal of most Dragon Ball Z fights, but that makes the battles that do excel in this area even more special. Clever strategies, unique techniques, and detailed martial arts are what define good choreography in a DBZ fight. While animation and cinematography can elevate a fight's choreography, they aren't a stand-in for the real deal.

Every DBZ fan knows that the 90s movies take heavy inspiration from the anime. Goku and Piccolo's fight against Garlic Jr. at the end of Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone is an obvious rip-off of the two heroes' battle against Raditz at the start of the Saiyan Saga. Yet, it's hard to care about originality too much when a fight looks as good as this one.
