10 Best Elder Scrolls Villains, Ranked
Dec 22, 2024
There are a variety of components that are responsible for creating a cohesive, compelling, and enjoyable story in any medium. But one of the most important parts of such is the antagonist, the enemy, because they are where a majority — if not the entirety — of where the conflict in a story comes from. They are the antithesis to the narrative, the foil of the plot, and more often than not the driving force behind the protagonist's goals and ambitions. In Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls, such is no less the case.
The Elder Scrolls is an IP filled to the brim with enriched and detailed lore, an expansive world, layered characters, and enthralling stories. When it comes to villains, they are not lacking in those as well. From Arena to Skyrim, the lands of Tamriel have been subject to multiple crises and dangers, all stemming from the actions of a single entity that seeks to undo the world for its own purposes, whether by malignance or ambition. With a series as vast as The Elder Scrolls, there is no shortage of such villains, but who among them stands out the most?
10 Alduin is the Prophesized Apocalypse
He is known by names: The World Eater, The Twilight God, The First Dragon — but to most, he is Alduin. He is one of the oldest dragons in existence and their strongest. Alduin is known as the creator and destruction of the world, the latter of which he is greatly feared for. In the Merethic Era, he and the rest of his kin were both worshiped and feared by the people under them; Alduin himself, was the most revered, and the most feared. With his fire and talons, he brought such terror and carnage across the world that he was more so a tyrant than a god.
