Mixed Reactions As Citizen TV Reveas The Origin Of "Kasongo Yeye" President Ruto’s New Viral Nickname
Nov 27, 2024
President William Ruto has earned numerous nicknames during his tenure, each reflecting varying aspects of his personality and political style. The latest moniker, " Kasongo Yeye, " has taken social media by storm, sparking widespread discussions and creative content among Kenyans online.
The nickname originated from a corrupted version of a popular Rhumba song that has recently gained traction on platforms like TikTok. The phrase, which loosely translates to humorous or exaggerated references to Ruto, has become a trending soundbite, with over 164, 000 uses on TikTok as of November 26, 2024. It first gained attention after Ugandan pastor Aloysius Bujingo performed the song for his congregation, inadvertently fueling its popularity among Kenyans.
Reactions to the nickname vary widely. A supporter, Karanja, commented, " We will vote Ruto again and again. We love our president deeply. Let' s spread peace and love and give the government time to work for Kenyans. " This reflects the president' s loyal base, which continues to back him despite the humor surrounding his new moniker.
Adding to the debate, Innocent Ababu commented on the media' s role in shaping public opinion, stating, " I think Royal Media Services, especially Citizen TV and Radio, are the major opposition right now. " Such remarks highlight the growing perception of media houses as influential critics of the government.
