Recent developments surrounding the Equatorial Guinea sex tape scandal have captured significant attention both domestically and internationally. The scandal involves Baltasar Ebang Engonga, a high- ranking official and former head of the National Financial Investigation Agency, who was recently dismissed following the leak of numerous explicit videos featuring him with various women, including spouses of prominent officials.

Over 150 to 400 videos depicting Engonga in intimate acts surfaced on social media, causing a public uproar. The first mentions of these videos appeared on October 28, 2024, on platforms like Facebook and Telegram, quickly spreading via WhatsApp across the country. The videos have been described as shocking, particularly due to the involvement of women connected to influential political figures.

In response to the scandal, Vice President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mangue demanded that telecommunications companies take immediate action to limit the spread of these videos. He condemned the situation as damaging to family integrity and ordered an investigation into the leaks. Additionally, he proposed installing CCTV in government offices to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Engonga has faced legal repercussions not only for the video leaks but also for his alleged involvement in embezzlement. He was arrested prior to the video leaks and is currently being investigated for misconduct related to both the sex tapes and financial crimes.
