Nov 14, 2024
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, born on March 24, 1944, hails from a distinguished Ghanaian family.
His education began at Government Boys School in Adabraka, followed by Kinbu School. He later pursued his O-Level and A-Level education at Lancing College in Sussex, England.
After studying Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at New College, Oxford, Akufo-Addo returned to Ghana, where he taught at Accra Academy and earned an Economics degree from the University of Ghana in 1964.
Nana Akufo-Addo's political journey has deep roots, tracing back to his prominent lineage. His father, Edward Akufo-Addo, was Ghana's third Chief Justice and non-executive president from 1970 to 1972.
His maternal grandfather, Nana Sir Ofori Atta, was the King of Akyem Abuakwa and a key figure in Ghana’s pre-independence governance.
Akufo-Addo has been married to Rebecca Akufo-Addo, daughter of Jacob Hackenburg Griffiths-Randolph, since the dissolution of his previous marriages to Remi and Eleanor Nkansah-Dwamina.
Their marriage is celebrated for its public display of affection, and the couple renewed their vows privately in 2017. Together, they have four daughters: Gyankroma, Yeboakua, Edwina Nana Doukwa, and Adriana Dukua Akufo-Addo.
Some of his daughters, such as Edwina and Gyankroma, have played active roles in supporting their father’s political career.
