Sep 20, 2024
Kithure Kindiki was born and raised in Tharaka-Nithi County. He began his education at Lenana School, where he scored a Grade C in his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). Unhappy with this result, which did not meet the university entry requirements, he retook the exam at Tharaka Boys High School.
In 1998, Kindiki graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Moi University. He went on to obtain a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Human Rights Law and Democracy from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, in 2000. To qualify as an advocate, he completed the Advocates' Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies at the Kenya School of Law in 2001. He further pursued his education, earning a PhD in International Law from the University of Pretoria in 2002.
Currently, Professor Kithure Kindiki serves as the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration in Kenya, a role he assumed after being appointed by President William Ruto on September 27, 2022. He succeeded Fred Matiang’i in this influential position.
Kindiki's academic career began as a law lecturer at Moi University from 1999 to 2003, followed by a stint at the University of Nairobi between 2004 and 2005. A seasoned advocate, he has been practicing at the High Court of Kenya since 2001 and is also a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC) counsel.
