Newton, who was just making his footprint at the club, met his untimely death as he drowned in a lake in Duisburg on Tuesday evening.

He succumbed to his injuries in hospital despite all efforts by medics to save him.

The news sent shock and disbelief into the club, with all training and game activities suspended for all youth teams from U9 to U19.

The pause is a major expression of the great feeling of loss among everybody attached to the club.

Klaus Allofs, Director of Sport & Communication, said;

"We are deeply shocked and can't accept this news. Newton is a young man who lived his dream and now passed away far too soon.

"Our condolences and deepest sympathies go out to Newton's family, teammates, and the entire team in our NLZ."
